Vine Middle Magnet is one of only a handful of Knox County Schools that offers beginning strings instruction. Orchestra classes will meet during the school day and will be free of charge. The orchestra course is designed to provide students with a working knowledge of practical, pedagogical, and historical concepts needed to perform symphonic literature in an orchestra setting. Instruction on violin, viola, cello, and bass will focus on good technical and performance skills. Students will perform a varied repertoire of music requiring knowledge in rhythm and time signatures, music symbols and terms, bowing techniques, and articulation styles. Ear-training, sight-reading, music theory, and music history will also be covered. To reinforce skills developed in class, home practice is imperative to student progress and private lessons are encouraged.
